    Photo Quality Questions

What technology does Winkflash use to make my photos?     back to top
Winkflash uses state-of-the-art Fuji Frontier digital printers designed for professional photofinishers. The exposed photographic paper is chemically processed in the same way as in traditional photo labs, meaning you get the same high quality prints for your digital images as you would from a film camera.

What type of paper is used?     back to top
Winkflash uses both glossy and matte Fujicolor Crystal Archive photographic paper from Fuji.

Do you offer Glossy and/or Matte finish prints?     back to top
Yes. We offer both Glossy and Matte Finish Prints. Please note that this choice is only available through the use of our Online Web Albums.

How long will my photos last?     back to top
Winkflash prints will last several decades before any noticeable fading occurs. Unlike ink-jet printing, our process is similar to how traditional film is processed, meaning your digital images are transferred to actual photographic paper and will last a very long time.

What type of paper / chemicals / lab does winkflash use to make prints?     back to top
Our photo labs use FUJI Paper and Chemicals. We use high quality FUJI Crystal Archive Paper and Chemicals to produce colors that are more true-to-life.

Will my photos be cropped? If so, can I adjust the cropping?     back to top
Depending on the size of the images you send us, sometimes it may be necessary for cropping to occur to your images. However, we do offer options for you to adjust the cropping or eliminate it altogether.

Using our free software, when you go to place your order be sure to click on the "Options" button. Using this button, you can move the crop lines to a desirable position. Alternatively, by choosing the "Inset" option you can fit the image to the photo which will result in white borders on the edges of your photo, thus eliminating the need for cropping.

We also offer "Digital Photo Sizes" which more exactly match the size image that digital cameras make, meaning there will be less or no cropping applied to your images. These digital photo sizes are usually smaller than that of typical photos.

What size are the wallet-sized photos made to?     back to top
Our wallet-sized pictures are made 4 to a sheet. Each Wallet photo is 2.25" x 3". Each sheet of 4 wallets is only 39¢ each.

    Digital Image Questions

What resolution should my photos be at?     back to top
If you use a good quality digital camera or scanner at a high resolution and with minimal compression, you will be very happy with the results. The term "Resolution" relates to the number of pixels. In order to produce a satisfactory photographic print, your Digital Photo should have a resolution of at least 400 x 600 in its original size for a satisfactory 4" x 6" photo.

    Image Resolution Maximum print size
    640 x 480Absolute minimum resolution for 4x6
    (results will vary)
    1024 x 768Minimum recommended resolution for 4x6
    1152 x 864Minimum recommended resolution for 5x7
    1600 x 1200Minimum recommended resolution for 8x10 or larger

What color profile is used to make my photos?     back to top
Our system assumes that all image files are based on the industry standard sRGB color space. The sRGB color space is the default color setting for most digital cameras and software. If your images are not in sRGB, we recommend saving them as sRGB before submitting them to Winkflash.

Can I use scanned images?     back to top
Yes, but avoid too high a resolution as the resultant large file will take a long time to transmit using a modem and will occupy a lot of hard disk space on your PC. A good habit is to try to use a file with a resolution between 600 x 800 and 768 x 1024. This is a reasonable compromise between quality, disk space and modem transmission time.

What file format should the images be in?     back to top
You can save your images in any of the following formats: JPG, TIF, BMP, PNG, or GIF (Please note that GIF files are not reccomended for photographic images)

Can I print black & White images?     back to top
Yes, you may print black-and-white images.

What quality setting should my digital camera be set to?     back to top
You want to have your camera set on the highest resolution possible. This will ensure the best results when we develop your digital images.
